Best Superhero Movies

While everyone has a personal favorite superhero movie, there are some that stand out from all the others. Below is a list of ten movies that consistently receive top marks and can arguably be considered the best superhero movies released to date:

The Dark Knight

darkknight The second part of Christopher Nolan’s Batman series, this is a sequel to the movie Batman Begins (also appearing on this top ten list). It ranks 8th against all movie genres on Metacritic’s Best Movies of the Decade for 2000-2009 and was named one of the top ten films of 2008 by the American Films Institute.

 

Iron Man

Also considered by the American Films Institute as one of the ten best films of 2008, this film is the first installment in the Iron Man series. It has received a 91% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an average of 4.5 stars on Amazon ironman2

 

Marvel’s The Avengers

avengers The sixth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, The Avengers broke opening weekend box office records and is the third highest grossing film of all time. The main superheros featured include Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor.

 

X2: X-Men United

Also referred to as simply X2, this is the second film in the X-men series. It won the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film and has an Amazon rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. x2

 

 

Spider-Man 2

Spiderman 2( : Original Cinema Quad Poster The second film in Sam Raimi’s Spiderman trilogy, it broke a number of records upon its release including: opening day sales, highest grossing Wednesday, and highest independence day weekend. It holds an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and is listed on the American Films Institute top 10 movies of 2004.

 

Batman Begins

The first segment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman series, it boasts a 90% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 4.4/5 stars on Amazon, and is rated 81 on Empire’s list of 500 Greatest Movies of All Time. batmanbegins

 

The Dark Knight Rises

X-Men: First Class

Spider-Man

The fifth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, it received a three star rating from Roger Ebert who suggested that Marvel use it along with Iron Man as a template for its movies.
